The Green Valley Book Fair #sol17

 

 

 

The Green Valley Book Fair opened today and I have had this date circled on my calendar for weeks! I got up early (even though the Book Fair didn’t open until 10).  I first visited the Book Fair when I was an undergraduate at Mary Baldwin College because a professor recommended going at least once before graduating.  That was such great advice and I go the the Book Fair multiple times a year.

When I pulled into the parking lot, I could already feel the energy from all of the others who had also traveled to Harrisonburg on a quest for books.  The Book Fair didn’t disappoint and when I finally forced myself to the checkout line, I knew that I’d had a great book-buying day:) I’ve included a few pictures from the Book Fair and I highly recommend checking out this place!

One of the things that I love about the Green Valley Book Fair is that the organizers actively promote the Virginia Reader’s Choice program, which is sponsored by VSRA.  They already had books from the 2017-2018 list available, along with books from previous lists.

There were so many books for younger readers.  I love the Roscoe Riley series, so I stocked up on them.  We have one of these books in our classroom library and one of my new students seemed to enjoy it, so I can’t wait to share these books with him on Tuesday.

I really needed a second basket to hold all of my purchases.  I love The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z., so I picked up an extra copy.  The Pete the Cat book is for my practicum student.  I found a couple of picture books that I think she’ll enjoy.  I think that will be a great present for her last day with us.  I also found several great books for a friend’s daughter who will be a first-year teacher in the fall and I can’t wait to give them to her next week.  I will admit going slightly over budget, but there were so many good books!
