Saturday afternoon at school-#sol15

My classroom on a Saturday afternoon is a great place to work.  I have so many things that I need to accomplish, from lesson plans and preparing materials to writing a research plan for next week’s class.  When I work at home, I often allow myself to be distracted, but at school, those distractions are minimal.  Plus, at school I have a huge, horseshoe-shaped table where I can spread everything out that I’m working on.

The building is so quiet and the halls are dim.  The only sounds that I hear is the hum of my mini-fridge and the clicking of the computer keys.  I have a cup of tea and a few snacks handy.  The articles that I am using in my research project are spread out beside me.  When I need a break from that, I switch gears and work on my lesson plans, organize my materials, make any copies, work on files, and basically just get organized for the coming week.  As my schedule has been pretty intense recently, the few hours that I spend here on the weekend allow me to greet Monday morning with a smile and a feeling of anticipation.

During my whole teaching career my schools have been locked and coded(without teacher access) so weekend work on campus has not been possible. It is sort of a mixed blessing. Hurrah for your productive afternoon!

Nice! I might be inspired to go to my room today! Report cards are due. I usually keep my weekends sacred from work, but I like the idea of no one bothering me while I hammer them out in the dim light of my classroom!

Saturday is my favorite day to work in my classroom. It is quiet and there are zero interruptions. The copy machine is all mine if I need it and NObody calls my name over and over. Plus I have energy and focus and I feel like I accomplish way more in a couple hours than I do during the week. I’m a little jealous of that cup of tea and horseshoe table. Have a very productive day!

I love to go in and work when no one else is there. You are right about getting stuff done! When I am home there is a lot to distract me, too. Enjoy your time!

I love it when I am able to get into my classroom on the weekend. Unfortunately, being able to enter my classroom depends on whether the principal decides to put in weekend hours. You are right about how productive those couple hours can be with the solitude and quiet contemplation.

I have always enjoyed the fact that I have a key to this wonderful building where learning happens! It amazes me, and on the Saturdays that I work, I am always momentarily stunned by the quiet.

We think only teachers can appreciate that when-the-school is empty feeling. So relaxing and so much can get done. Great post.

I try to limit my Saturdays at school for those just before reports are due. On Sundays my living room is a mess of me working on school work. I try to bring what I will need home, so that I do not have to sit in my classroom far away.
